The 17th annual Architecture Week International Festival of Architecture and Urbanism, in cooperation with the Prague City Hall, individual city districts, and a number of other prestigious and professional institutions, experts, and representatives of the arts, has prepared a unique exhibition.
The curators of the exhibition have prepared a unique overview of the development of our capital city from 1922 to the present day in the exhibition spaces of the Mánes Gallery in Prague. Visitors will have the opportunity to see both historical and contemporary Prague in one place. These two worlds, which are closely connected, intertwine and provide insight into the broader context influencing the development, appearance, and form of our metropolis. Under the guise of historical synergy, they also hint at possible trends for future development.
Let us remember that words, however eloquently written, are meaningless unless they are backed up by deeds, and this is doubly true in the case of such an ambitious project as the exhibition Greater Prague 1922–2022: The Birth of a Metropolis. That is why the curators and organizers of the exhibition have endeavored to show the development of our metropolis in the broadest possible context and from all angles, reflecting the spirit of the times in colors and images, musical works, songs, fashion trends, sporting events, archival documentary photographs and films, completely unique historical maps specially collected for this occasion, live interviews, memories, and colorful stories from meetings with eyewitnesses. The organizers’ goal is not only to offer an exceptionally prepared exhibition full of interesting and unique documents and artifacts, but also to allow visitors to truly feel how “time has passed” through the overall atmosphere.
