The exhibition “Four Seasons” brings a fascinating combination of Japanese art and the legacy of Alfons Mucha to the Mánes Gallery. Contemporary Japanese artists freely interpret the classic theme of the four seasons through painting, calligraphy, and traditional techniques. The exhibition runs from June 6 to 9, admission is free.
In June, the Mánes Gallery will become a place of unique cultural encounters, where Japanese art will connect with inspiration from Czech Art Nouveau master Alfons Mucha. The exhibition, entitled Four Seasons, presents a diverse collection of works by contemporary Japanese artists, each of whom approaches this traditional theme in their own unique way.
The assignment for the artists was simple: freedom. Each of the exhibitors was able to express themselves without restrictions on style or technique. The result is a colorful range of artworks that combine modern and classical approaches, Western painting, and elements of traditional Japanese aesthetics—from delicate calligraphy to distinctive paintings inspired by nature, the cycle of the year, and human emotions that are inseparable from each season.
The exhibition is organized by the Japanese cultural company Qualiart Co., Ltd., which has long been dedicated to international dialogue through art. Through its activities, it connects continents and inspires new forms of collaboration between artists from different cultures.
The grand opening will take place on Thursday, June 6, at 2:00 p.m., with the participating artists in attendance. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the artists in person and learn more about their approach to their work.
Come and be enchanted by the subtlety of Japanese aesthetics and discover how strongly Mucha’s work can still resonate in an international context more than a century later. The Four Seasons exhibition is an invitation to dialogue, contemplation, and cultural connection.
