Visual artist Stepan Soukup has created a unique, site-specific audiovisual installation for the Mánes space, exploring the interpenetration of civilization and landscape.
Within a series of video projections, idyllic imagery comes into sharp conflict with reality, confronting visitors with questions about who shapes the landscape today, by what means, and what our own position within it is. A key role is played by the human gaze, which is never capable of grasping the whole. Reality always presents itself from only one side, while the other remains hidden from view.
When visiting Landform, we thus enter a space that gradually reveals that every visible surface has its reverse side—one that is not (and often is not meant to be) seen.
For the full experience of the installation, Landform can be visited only after nightfall. For this reason, opening hours are adjusted for the duration of the exhibition.
