This exhibition of paintings follows on from the exhibition of drawings entitled “Figurama” by students of the Faculty of Design and Art at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen and other art colleges focusing on visual communication under the guidance of Prof. Boris Jirků, of whom Ondřej Míšek is also a former student.
ONDŘEJ MÍŠEK
He studied graphic design in the studio of Prof. Lech Majewski and painting in the studio of Prof. Adam Styka at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. From 2009 to 2016, he lived in Bangkok, Thailand, where he first worked as a graphic design lecturer at the Accademia Italiana Institute of Fashion and Design. Later, he worked as a manager at one of the then-popular nightclubs, Maggie Choo’s Bar, which was known for its Chinese cabaret performances and jazz music. His work at Maggie Choo’s inspired the “Maggie Choo’s Series” of paintings.
The streets, people, and nightlife of Bangkok, Thailand, as well as the world of Thai boxing, are the subjects of a series of paintings entitled “Bangkok Series” and “Muay Thai Series.” His most recent works include a series of paintings inspired by his stay in Warsaw in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Ondřej Míšek’s paintings are characterized by figurative motifs, complemented by distinctive typography based on graphic design, especially poster design.
