The Czech Fine Arts Foundation has recognized an exceptional student design
The Czech Fine Arts Foundation awarded Matúš Ivanič for his poster design as part of the 2024 National Student Design Award. The student of the Faculty of Multimedia Communications at Tomáš Baťa University in Zlín won over the jury with his unique concept combining literature, typography, and fine arts.
According to the author, the poster draws inspiration from “words such as Kafkaesque, surrealistic, and existential,” which in his design reflect the incongruity, transformation, and textual structure typical of Franz Kafka’s work. Matúš Ivanič used fragments of texts from Kafka’s books, combining them with geometric shapes and sans-serif typography to create an impressive 3D effect, emphasized by the black-and-white design.
His work was supervised by Prof. Mgr. A. Pavel Noga, ArtD., who contributed to the precise realization of this work.
The chairman of the foundation’s board of directors, Daniel Netušil, explained and praised the winning design as follows: “Matúš Ivanič’s design demonstrates not only a deep understanding of the literary context, but also the ability to translate a complex idea into an understandable visual form. His work celebrates the connection between design, literature, and typography, which is particularly fitting in a year when we commemorate the centenary of Kafka’s death.”
The award-winning poster will be part of the exhibition Nový (z)boží! 2024, which will take place in December 2024 at the Clam-Gallas Palace in Prague.
